Ohm (symbol: Ω, the uppercase Greek letter omega) is the unit of (electrical) resistance in the International System of Units (SI).

Culture Ω Democracy is a non-profit company run by researcher, author and activist Dr. Fredrik von Malmborg.

Based on long experience of systems-oriented and interdisciplinary work, our mission is to initiate and lead innovative collaboration across sectors and disciplines to foster a democratic, just and sustainable society that respects all humans’ equal value, dignity and rights.

We put community and cooperation before competition, and aims to collaborate with various societal actors, including from civil society, politics, local and regional authorities, arts and small and medium-sized companies. We work through different channels and in different forsm, such as civic education initiatives, critical social and cultural analysis, and crossdisciplinary innovation projects combining arts, social sciences and humanities, and technology for socio-technical change.

Culture Ω Democracy was born out of a growing insight, concern and anger that societies, not only in Sweden but around the world, are developing for the worse. This applies, for example, to economic justice, where differences in income and access to capital are increasing. But also to the loss of democratic values and institutions.

Less people in the world live in democracies. Autocratization is taking place in Sweden and other parts of the Western world. This calls into question fundamental principles of human dignity and equality, as well as other human rights.

People are expected to align themselves in order to take part in society’s services. Those who do not conform to the ranks are deprived of their dignity as human beings and their human and democratic rights.

Participation in political processes is largely reduced to the right to vote. All of this risks being exacerbated by the climate emergency we are in, but also by the fact that we are still governed by the societal structures that have created and escalated the current situation.

But worry and anger can be used constructively as a basis for action and change – if you find hope. Hope is born in communities, in groups and communities, when people cooperate instead of competing.

The ambition of Culture Ω Democracy is to bring out hope and action through combinations of research, cultural expressions and conversations, and to promote social and cultural change based on innovative and cross-boundary cooperation and collaboration that can help develop resistance to opressive structures and develop organising stratgies and politics for a just and sustainable society.

Culture Ω Democracy seeks to engage in collaborations in three interrelated areas. Collaboration can take part in one, two or all areas.
